The new generation of supersaloons makes a big impression on the author. Currently, 500hp is quite normal where 20 years ago the supercar Ferrari F40 had 'only' 478hp. Some technical details about the engine and suspension are provided. Additionally, it is mentioned that the radialcharger spins at a maximum of 105000rpm. The B5 engine makes 133lb ft of torque more than the M5 at much lower engine revs.

The suspension is very impressive with a good mix of sportiness and long-distance comfort. The DSC software has been modified to allow the car to drift under circumstances where the driver is obviously still in control. It is mentioned that the B5 rear differential was provided to BMW for the V8 turbodiesels where no suitable BMW differential was available. Also mentioned is that Alpina refuse to use BMW's Active Steering due to being unsuitable to sporty driving.

The conclusion is that the B5 is at least as fast as the M5 but more desireable to its ease to drive fast and its exclusivity.
