Introduction
The U-series engines are based on the BMW B57D30 diesel turbo engine.

U1
The U1 engine is based on the B57D30C (S0) quad-turbo diesel engine from the M550dX with 400PS and 760Nm. This engine was introduced in the G3x D5 S (LHD) in late 2017.
The quad-turbos are replaced with one low-pressure and 2 high-pressure turbos, using the exhaust manifold from the F10 M550d. Additionally, extensive modifications have been made to the cooling package and intake system.
U2
The U2 engine is based on the B57D30 (T0) twin-turbo diesel engine from the 540d with 320PS and 680Nm. This engine was introduced in the G30 D5 S (RHD) in late 2017.
U3
The U3 engine is based on the B57D30C (S0) quad-turbo diesel engine from the M550dX with 400PS and 760Nm. This engine was introduced in the G01 XD3 in early 2018.
