A very expansive test by the well-known German editor and racedriver Horst von Saurma. The test includes timed sessions on amongst other the Nürburgring, Hockenheim and various slaloms. The positioning of the B6 S by Alpina is as a rapid GT rather than sportscar. The article starts with quite some background about the history which led to this decision including the predecessors of the B6 S such as the 3.0 CSL, B7 Turbo Coupé and B12 5.7 Coupe. Quite some technical details are provided regarding the engine, radialcharger and gearbox. The suspension is very agile yet comfortable. The B6 S is excellent at high-speed Autobahn travel - it reaches its topspeed without any drama; so much so that the author believes the stability is sufficient for much higher speeds. On racetracks the suspension is simply too soft. The conclusion is that the B6 S fulfills its intended purpose as rapid GT very well. |
