  • In 1976 BMW introduced the E24 6-series, the successor to the E9 coupes, with which both BMW and Alpina had achieved considerable motorsport success. Therefore it was a logical step for Alpina to introduce their own 630 CS B2 in May 1977.

The B2 engine, also available in the Alpina 530 B2, was based on BMW´s 3.0 litre unit however Alpina´s engine was fitted with special Solex carburetors on an Alpina induction system, an Alpina camshaft and ported, polished cilinderhead.

This resulted in 230 bhp, which allowed the 630 CS B2 to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6,9 seconds with a top speed of 230 km/h. Other changes made were 14″ Alpina alloy wheels, a front spoiler, a full interior upgrade package and a special Bilstein-Alpina suspension.
