The D3 is tested against the car which forms its basis - the 320d. Once options are taken into account the D3 is quite a deal. The 320d costs almost the same if frontspoiler, suspension and wheels from the M-package are ordered. The suspension of the D3 is a lot better than the 320d - espeically on bad quality road surfaces. The standard 3-series seats - also installed as standard in the D3 - are critisized as not providing much support. The engine of the D3 exceeds 100hp/liter which is a magic value that only a few years before even petrol engines had trouble exceeding. The additional power of the D3 becomes especially apparent above 2000rpm and 100kph. The fuel consumption is only 0.6 liter/100km more than the 320d. The conclusion is that the D3 wins slightly on points and perfectly fills the gap between the 320d and 330d. |
