  • Introduction

The D3 BiTurbo is based on the BMW 330d with a modified version of the BMW 335d engine.

In September 2013, at the IAA motorshow, the D3 BiTurbo was introduced in Limousine and Touring versions. At the same time, the 4WD version – the D3 Allrad – was introduced, available only as Touring.

The Swiss premiere of the D3 Touring Allrad was at the Zürich motorshow in November 2013.

In line with the new naming conventions at BMW, from the F30-series onwards the Cabrio and Coupe versions of the D3 BiTurbo are named D4 BiTurbo.

The LCI version of the D3 BiTurbo was presented at the Geneva motorshow in 2015.

Production of the Limousine version of the D3 BiTurbo ended in summer 2018 due to the F30 3-series being phased out by BMW. At the same time, production of the Touring version of the D3 BiTurbo was ended due to EU emission regulations.

    Engine/Gearbox

The engine is the same as the D5 BiTurbo. It is based on the BMW engine from the 335d, which retains stock engine block and internal parts. It has been modified to 350hp and 700Nm. Heat management is improved by installing the cooling package from the hot-climate version of the 330d, as well as extensive custom Alpina air ducting.

The stainless steel exhaust system was developed together with Akrapovič. It features exhaust system sound control with Drive Performance Control.

The only available gearbox is the 8-speed Sport-Automatic transmission (ZF 8HP70) with Switchtronic.

Optionally, a Drexler limited slip differential is available.

    Suspension/Brakes/Wheels

The D3 BiTurbo has adaptive M sport suspension with electronically adjustable dampers, performance springs, bump stops and stabilisers. The suspension is modified with Alpina settings.

Wheels are 19-inch Alpina Classic wheels with 245/35 and 265/35 Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. Optionally, 20-inch Alpina Classic wheels with 245/30 and 265/30 tires are available, as well as 19-inch winter wheels with 245/35 Michelin Alpin tires.

The suspension features a strut brace and adjustments to camber, toe-in and elastokinematics.

Brakes disks are 370x30mm front and 345x24mm rear with blue aluminum calipers (4-piston front, 2-piston rear) with Alpina lettering.

    Interior/Exterior

The D3 BiTurbo undergoes the same interior changes as usual with Alpina. Cluster gauges are custom Alpina with classic blue background combined with steering wheel trimmed in Lavalina leather. Additionally, interior trim is fine Alpina wood or piano lacquer with Alpina logos. A no-cost option are Alpina badges in the seats. Optionally, a custom interior in Lavalina leather can be ordered, as well as additional instruments mounted in the center airduct.

For the exterior, the changes are limited to an Alpina Type 556 frontspoiler and Alpina badges on the rear. The sedan version has an Alpina Type 570 rearspoiler. A non-cost option is the classic Alpina decor on sides of the car and frontspoiler. Available exterior colors include Alpina Blue and Alpina Green II.
